Virgin Media to sponsor Big Brother
According to Digital Spy, Virgin Media plans to sponsor Big Brother 8. Now personally I think of Big Brother as something that should be killed off now, it wasn’t particularly interesting to watch people stuck in a house the first time, but it was indeed a massive success. However, year after year more people get bored with it and viewing figures got so low that they recently had to stage a racism incident to get viewers up.
There’s no doubt in my mind that the racism incident was blown out of all proportion and there’s a good possibility that this was deliberate. It got Big Brother into the news and at the same time made people tune in that wouldn’t have tuned in previously while at the same time phoning up Ofcom saying why they’d never watch it again. Even MP’s talked on the news about this, sometimes you have to wonder where this nation has gone wrong that they make national news of the antics of a few D list celebrities.
So unless they can create another incident like that then viewing figures for Big Brother 8 will probably be at an all time low. More and more people will stop watching simply because it’s not interesting plus you’ll have 5 extra people who are still boycotting the show because they were truly offended at what was said rather than just jumping on a bandwagon.
For those people who do not think that this was just a publicity stunt in bad tase but in fact was genuine then you shouldn’t have complained to Ofcom either, it’s meant to be a reality show and unfortunately racism is a part of life if this show brought up the topic of racism then that’s good, it should encourage people to think more about it and how it can be tackled
