A year of IE6 bugs
Brian Krebs of the Washington Post has looked back over a year of IE6 vulnerabilities and came to the conclusion that a fully patched IE6 installation would have been unsafe for 284 days in the year.
On the other hand, this article claims that Firefox only suffered from 9 days of serious unpatched vulnerabilities. Nothing was mentioned about other browsers such as Opera and it’s a bit early to get figures for the recently released IE7.
This chart shows when the most serious vulnerabilities remained unpatched in IE6. Hopefully IE7 will be a vast improvement. If you’re using IE6 it’s important to upgrade either to IE7 or to another browser such as Firefox or Opera. Now that IE7 has been released then I suspect that Microsoft will be even slower in releasing fixes for IE6.
