5 new features for Gmail
Gmail (known as Google Mail in the UK and Germany for legal reasons) has recently introduced some small improvements intended to make using it easier. Two of the most important additions include a notification of new messages arriving in a thread when you’re viewing or replying to a message in a thread. This gives you the opportunity of viewing these new messages without reloading the whole page and losing any partially typed reply. Also, chat within Google Mail and Google Talk now has offline support.
On the mobile front there’s now a Java based Gmail app for mobile phones, this is in addition to the special XHTML edition of Gmail that is designed for display on mobile phones browsers (m.gmail.com). As most mobile browsers have poor JavaScript support then an AJAX style Gmail was not possible on most phones, hence the Java app to provide this functionality.
Finally, two more minor features. A more prominent reply button and the facility to forward all messages in a thread rather than a single one.
