Opera 9 makes installing on a Mac even easier

Most Mac OS X applications are fairly easy to install compared to their Windows counterparts. But I was pleasantly surprised at how Opera managed to make it even easier when I finally got round to installing version 9.02
The process for installing applications that are supplied as DMG (disk image) files is easy, click on the DMG file to open it then drag the icon to your chosen location to install (usually the applications folder). Installer applications tend to only need to be run for more complex apps.

Opera have made this process even easier, when you open the DMG you have two icons, one is the application and the other is a link (alias) to the applications folder, this means if you want to install in the default location you no longer need to open up the applications folder all you need to do is drag the icon a couple on centimetres to the right and that’s Opera installed. Click the image below to see for yourself, the Applications folder is linked directly to the real applications folder:

Such a simple, but effective idea, I hope Firefox and Camino follow suit. Here’s a screenshot of the current Firefox disk image, it has a picture showing what to do but unlike the Opera one you need to open up the applications folder and drag it to there.
